What do you want to do? Has it been burning (even if just the back-burner) for a while? Do you want to run a half-marathon? Climb the Three Peaks? Do you think your child has potential to really go places in pro sport? I always like to ask why you clicked on this page, and why you want to improve at something. Is it for you? Is it for your child? Both are venerable reasons to be here, I think. You might have designs about being a pro or you might want to just learn new skills and be better at something. I’m currently training a few five and six year old’s who genuinely look like they have what it takes to make it, and I’m also teaching a seventy-three year old woman (cancer patient) how to box, and she’s all in and looks the part.

Parents often contact me about aiming to improve the child’s physical or technical performance in a particular activity/sport … and why not. To me this isn’t a pushy parent pushing their child onto a stage, it’s learning new skills and surprising yourself at just how good it feels to be good at something. It’s enormously rewarding seeing a child who isn’t naturally as coordinated as others, learn new skills and feel great about it. For me, it was as a sixteen year old having instruction from Scottish Athletics sprint coaches and it took me from being naturally quick on the football field, to being really quick .. and it was amazing (to me).

So maybe you expected this page to be about test tubes, lactate and heart rate analysis and yes we do all that too … but applied sports science can be immensely positive for anyone. Anyone who wants to better. We’re human beings, self-actualisation is what we strive for, young and old.
The following pages drill down into specific skills/qualities/events. Have a look, see if you want to give it a go.

Why Use a Sports Scientist?
Sports Scientists are trained to a significantly greater degree than Personal Trainers in human physiology. There are some good Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropractors, but far too often, too many are prescribing unproven, ineffective treatments. It baffles.
Modern science and a deep understanding of the body is of paramount importance so that you receive the safest, best advice and effective personalised programming.
