Why the Hell Do You Want to do a Marathon or Half Marathon??!!

Why indeed? Actually, don’t answer that … no need to answer that. Ask any anthropological scientist worth their salt and they’ll tell you that running is arguably one of the biggest single qualities that define human beings. We’re hard-wired to run. In the animal kingdom, we are amongst the best at it. Running is a key part of who we are on a profound level.
Endurance running, and especially when combined with the ability to sweat (and of course teamwork, plus cooking to make more nutrients bioavailable), meant we were top predators. We caught more food than most other species … thus, calorific-expensive brains grew.

We seem to have lost this ability to a degree. When evaluating running style/gait, almost everyone exhibits the same common traits, which not only slow you down, but make running seem much harder than it needs to be.
These are not especially difficult to address, provided that we’re mostly running for self-actualising or recreational purposes. Much of the time, as long as we don’t go crazy with our expectations, then everyone can experience the joy of running much much farther than they might have previously expected … and it feels amazing.
If, however, performance is your aim, then we approach it in a much more demanding way, to ensure we get the best that you can give. We do this too.

You don’t need me to tell you about the health benefits of running; but what I think is important is understanding the popular misconception that running is said to increase lower limb injuries. Many studies have been done on this and in the vast majority of cases, running drastically improved lower body strength, resilience and resistance to injury. What we will absolutely do though is analyse your running gait, even your walking gait, to ensure we do this as safely as possible and the get the maximum benefit for your body as a whole.
So … have you been thinking about this for a while? Feel like channeling your primitive human? You were born to do it. Go on, drop us a line.

Why Use a Sports Scientist?
Sports Scientists are trained to a significantly greater degree than Personal Trainers in human physiology. There are some good Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropractors, but far too often, too many are prescribing unproven, ineffective treatments. It baffles.
Modern science and a deep understanding of the body is of paramount importance so that you receive the safest, best advice and effective personalised programming.
